…wonderful time of the year. We made just a small handful of Christmas appearances this year, so we haven’t seen as many of you face to face as we’d have liked. But we’ve loved hearing from those of you who have been enjoying our two Christmas albums. For those who don’t have them, and like actual disks, right now you can get $.01 shipping on our CDs, which are only $10 for a limited time. Just click here. Here’s hoping you all have a very merry Christmas. See you in 2016!
After another wonderful Christmas tour, we sat back and pondered what our next step as a band might be. Where does the story go from here? As there are rumors of a new release to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of our 1997 debut album on Ardent Records, we decided that it would be wise to start writing.
We were all recently together to play at chapel services for drivers and crew at the Coca Cola 600 in Charlotte, and we set aside some blocks of creative time to work out some of our song ideas. We were pretty happy with the results. Who knows how many of them will become actual recorded songs? But we were very encouraged to say the least.
For those who have ever wondered what a writing session might sound like, here’s a few minutes of audio, complete with Southern accents. It’ll be fun to see if this one turns out to be a keeper.
Another Christmas season is in the books, and we’re so thankful that we got the opportunities to play a few concerts together. Thanks to the churches and organizations that brought us in!
Here are a few photos, and an excerpt from the tour press release, thanks to Biscuit Media in Nashville TN:
Smalltown Poets is unique, as all five-band members are scattered across the country, living in five different cities on both coasts. Only in the first two years of the band’s existence did the band members live in close proximity to each other. Now, on this new Christmas project, all of the original members were able to record together in the studio for the first time in years.
“Through the miracles of modern technology and recording, we have been able to still create music as a band, even though the 5 of us all live in different cities across the country,” states Michael Johnston, lead vocalist. “This opportunity to all come back together to record has been an amazing experience. It felt a lot like coming home.”
After the success of the band’s debut Christmas project “Smalltown Poets Christmas” in 2011, this second holiday album was a welcomed concept. Filled with traditional holiday carols, favorite songs and a few new originals, the album is already receiving rave reviews from those who supported the Pledge Music campaign and received the project before its official release date.
We’re happy to announce that we’ll be playing a limited number of concerts this Christmas season in support of our upcoming album – “Christmas Time Again,” to be released Nov. 25th. This tour will feature all 5 original members of Smalltown Poets.
We’ll also be releasing the single “Christmas Time Again” to radio. Please request it.
On our Atlanta (Duluth GA) show, we’ll be joined by two artists we think are pretty special: Casey Darnell and Jared&Amber. Check them out, and please come spend an evening with us this Christmas season!

We can’t thank our friends and fans enough for helping us get to 100% of our Pledge Music Campaign goal to raise the money to produce and release a new Christmas album (our second). Your support has had a profound impact on this project. We’re excited to share the new music with you!
So what’s next?
On Nov 11th, we’ll be uploading the full downloadable album, as an exclusive for those who pledged during the campaign. As supporters of our campaign, those folks will get the album 2 weeks before it’s officially released to the rest of the world on Nov. 25th.
We’re busy preparing all the other items that were purchased during the Pledge campaign – such as signed Christmas cards, drumsticks used during the recording, and previously unreleased demo recordings, just to name a few. All Christmas items will be delivered in plenty of time for Christmas. We’ll keep pledgers updated on the progress of those.
Lastly, PledgeMusic allows for items that are not time sensitive to stay available until Nov. 11th. If there was something you wish you had picked up, it might still be available. You can see those here – http://pledgemusic.com/projects/smalltownpoets
Again, thanks so much for your support. The journey of this album is still unfolding, so there will be much more to share as we head into the holiday season.
